Description
Scope and Content: Approximately 30 pages of materials, mostly newsclippings, concerning the organization of and activities of the Hadley's Bend Historical Association. Items include initial organizational and incorporation documents, by-laws (1986), articles about meetings and activities of the organization as well as more general articles of a historical nature, especially concerning Old Hickory and the DuPont powder plant. News articles mention fundraising efforts, the hiring of Phil Thomason & Associates to research potential sites for National Register nominations; unsuccessful efforts to preserve and move Birdsong Cottage, the former home of Rachel Jackson Lawrence, Rachel Jackson's granddaughter, and the associated development of the Brandywine Place subdivision. Other topics include a new fire station in Old Hickory and the taking over of responsibilities for its operation by Metro government; local businesses in Old Hickory and Lakewood, past and present (1980s); flooding of the Old Hickory branch of the Nashville Public Library; a brochure about a tour of historic homes, with map; and festivities for the Homecoming '86 celebration when efforts were made to identify people age 86 or older and have them attend a reunion event on June 28, 1986 and share their memories of the Hadley's Bend area. A series of photographs are also included in the scrapbook, showing the distinctive styles of homes in Old Hickory village, including the names of the styles.

Biographical or Historical Data
The Hadley's Bend Historical Association was organized during the summer of 1984 with Jessie Wilson as president; Maude Robinson Hopkins as vice-president; and Molley Carter as secretary-treasurer. The geographic area of interest included Old Hickory (known as Jacksonville at the time of its founding), Lakewood (formerly known as Dupontonia), and Rayon City, all areas more generally known prior to the 20th century as Hadley's Bend, named for a bend in the Cumberland River. Other areas of interest for the organization were the communities of Berryville, Brandywine, and Hopewell. The group's stated purposes were: to nominate properties for listing on the National Register of Historic Places; to gather, preserve, file and act as a depository of all historic information for the Hadley’s Bend area, with materials initially kept at the Old Hickory branch of the Nashville Public Library; and to identify and mark historic buildings and sites in the area. It is unclear if the organization was directly involved in the listing of the Old Hickory Historic District to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. By 1989, the organization was recorded with the Tennessee Secretary of State as being dissolved.
